Top Marketer Says War for Talent Misses the Point

Dec 3, 2013

“We ought to be having a war for attitude.”

Seth Godin, one of America’s top bloggers and marketing thinkers, says that recruiters enlisted in the “war for talent” are mostly just “filling
slots
.”

Godin opines that talent is less important than attitude:

“An organization filled with honest, motivated, connected, eager, learning, experimenting, ethical and driven people will always defeat the one that merely
has talent.”

Godin’s blog is prominent: It was ranked in the top 10 in AdAge Power 150 marketing blog rankings in July 2013.

In the insurance industry, we’re short on talent. The funnel of people coming in has a slow flow. The brain drain of people going out has a
fast flow. Those trends are fueling the demand for people with good work attitudes – and talent. I see it every day.

WAHVE sees very strong demand for workers in the agent/broker sector in both personal lines and commercial lines. In fact, WAHVE has active job searches for new retirees because agencies simply can’t find qualified workers locally. There is no doubt: Agents and brokers
want to hire qualified, experienced insurance professionals. Know any? Let us know.

Is attitude more important than talent?
